Active cinemas in Alsace and Moselle between 1940 and 1945
The map shown here reflects the current state of research carried out by the Mémorial Alsace-Moselle, based on municipal archives and directories, as well as cinema listings in the press. Only movie theaters have been included; it doesn’t include community halls, restaurants, inns or hotels that may have shown films on an occasional basis.
The Nazi authorities suspended all commercial film screenings outside cinemas and selected those cinemas they deemed profitable, hence the decision not to reopen many of them.
