A person with a disability

Awarded the “Tourism & Disability” label, the Mémorial Alsace-Moselle is accessible to people with physical, visual, hearing, and cognitive disabilities. Our team is trained and committed to welcoming all visitors.

Access and mobility

For visitors with reduced mobility or walking difficulties, the Mémorial Alsace-Moselle has implemented several measures to facilitate access:

  • Step-free access by car is available via the upper part of the site.
  • Signage marked “Mémorial Alsace-Moselle” includes accessibility pictograms.
  • Four parking spaces are reserved for this purpose.
  • Three manual wheelchairs are available upon reservation.
  • Parts of the route intentionally include uneven flooring to evoke the discomfort experienced by Alsatians and Mosellans during the period of de facto annexation. However, the sloped path leading to the reception area has been designed to remain accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.
  • Two adapted lifts provide access to all areas of the Mémorial.
  • Information panels are positioned at a height suitable for visitors using wheelchairs.

Parking

The official car park, located at the bottom of the site (approximately a 15-minute walk), has five accessible parking spaces near the Wall of Names.

Accessible restrooms

Accessible toilets are available:

  • At the reception desk
  • In the shop
  • At two points along the permanent exhibition route
  • In the Documentation and Archives Center

Visual guidance and support for visually impaired visitors

  • Tactile paving is installed before each staircase.
  • Stairs are equipped with anti-slip nosings and contrasting white step edges.
  • Two adapted lifts provide access to all areas of the site (permanent exhibition, meeting and exhibition rooms, shop, and archives center).
  • Each floor is announced verbally in French, and the buttons include Braille labelling.
  • The visitor app, available for free download on smartphones, is also an accessible tool.
  • Guide dogs are allowed throughout the exhibition.

Hearing comfort and safety

  • An induction loop system is available at reception to facilitate communication with staff.
  • An alert light is installed in each restroom to signal imminent danger, particularly in case of fire.

Cognitive accessibility

In partnership with ESAT de la Ganzau – ARSEA, an Easy Read document (Easy to Read and Understand) is currently being developed to help visitors prepare for and enjoy their visit to the Mémorial.
