Exhibition “Dans l’ombre des salles annexées. Cinéma et propagande en Alsace et en Moselle (1940-1945)”

From the 19th of September 2026 to the 4th of September 2027, open daily from 9.30 am to 6 pm.

An exploration of cinema in the annexed Alsace-Moselle region (1940–1945), where this art became a tool for propaganda and Germanisation.

The de facto annexation of Alsace and Moselle by the Third Reich in the summer of 1940 led to the cultural subjugation and Germanisation of these territories. Cinema, which was booming in the 1930s, did not escape nationalisation. A powerful political and economic tool, it nevertheless remained a popular art form in Alsace and Moselle, with audiences continuing to attend cinemas in large numbers.

This exhibition has been translated in German and English.
